MCQ practice · SSC Physics Board questions · Chapter 2: Motion
A stationary object is given an acceleration of 2 ms⁻². After how long will it reach a velocity of 20 ms⁻¹?
Think it through first, then pick an option.
- a 0.1 s
- b 10 s
- c 18 s
- d 40 s
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: b 10 s
With u = 0, v = at and t = v/a = 20/2 = 10 s.
Why the other options are wrong
- a 0.1 s: 0.1 s comes from dividing 2 by 20. The time is t = v/a = 20/2.
- c 18 s: 18 s is 20 − 2. Velocity and acceleration cannot be subtracted because their units differ.
- d 40 s: 40 s comes from multiplying 20 × 2. To find the time from v = at one has to divide.
